I have advised many of my clients to stop crossing their legs when they are sitting. There are many good reasons why. Below, I have listed seven good reasons why you should stop crossing your legs:

  1. It can cause a misalignment of the hips, with one side of the hips being higher than the other.

  2. It can cause long-term changes in the muscle lengths and bone arrangements in your pelvis.

  3. Restricts the blood flow to your lower limbs, increasing the risk of blood clots.

  4. It can cause a misalignment of the pelvis, spine and shoulders.

  5. Increases you risk of developing scoliosis.

  6. The misalignment caused in the pelvis can potentially cause your head position to become misaligned due to changes in the cervical spine (bones in your neck), as the spine compensates to keep your centre of gravity above the pelvis.

  7. In men, regularly crossing the legs can impact on sperm production.
